High Yield Money Market Accounts

Another alternative to a high yield checking account is a high yield money market account. Money market interest rates are typically higher than rates of non-reward checking accounts. A money market account is similar to a bank savings account except that the money market account has limited check writing privileges. Federal law limits the number of checks that can be writen to 3 per month. Also, non-ATM withdrawals (like electronic debits for a credit card bill) are limited to 6 per month. The other downside is that these typically have a minimum balance requirement to avoid monthly fees.
